Due to recent shifts in medical practice, a new specialty called hospital medicine has emerged. Hospitalists are fully trained physicians, often times internists or other specialists, who spend their working hours in the hospital. They are available throughout the day or night for admissions and emergencies and take care of patients the same way an internist might, ordering treatments and tests and consulting with specialty physicians when appropriate. However, once a patient is discharged, the patient’s care returns to their primary care physician or internist.

Southwestern Medical Clinic is pleased to offer our own group of physicians as hospitalists who care for our patients during their hospital stay. If you are admitted to the hospital by a hospitalist, we notify your physician about the admission and give him/her updates from the hospital. Your physician can also access your hospital records at any time. Our hospitalist physicians are members of our clinic and provide the same care and values that you have come to expect at SWMC.
